Blog, Revisited

I cannot believe that it has been two years since I posted on this blog! So much has changed in my life since my last post here, and I have to admit I feel a little guilty for neglecting it. I don't know if I have the patience, or rather the attention span, to give a play-by-play of everything that has transpired over the past two years though. Maybe I could just pick back up where I left off...

Outside my window it is dark and way too warm for October!

I am thinking about all the things that I need to do and wondering if I will ever get the hang of prioritizing.

I am thankful for my family.

I am going to eventually get back into my exercise routine. Maybe this time with some precautions that won't have me wincing in pain every time I bend my knees for 6 months!

I am reading Vacation by Jeremy Shipp. Not the sort of book I generally would read, but my uncle sent me a couple of boxes of books. On a side note, he dedicated his latest novella to me for helping him edit!

On my mind... the upcoming holidays, my disappointment in myself for not keeping my weight off and not being able to find a happy medium between eating healthy and eating cheap.

From the classroom: Today we discussed Christopher Columbus... the side that you don't learn in public school. We are also working on a Halloween lapbook and cursive writing. I am very happy with the way school is going this year so far!

From the kitchen: Tonight I made chimichangas... the first I have ever had that didn't come frozen in a bag! Very impressed with them, and they were a hit with everyone!

Around the house: Finally got the Halloween decorations up last week. Working on organizing the pantry and chest freezer. Michael finally got the gate put up and finished outside.

One of my favorite things are cool autumn days & nights! <3

Plans for the rest of the week: Lunch with Mom on Thursday for her birthday. I need to get my hands on a chocolate cake mix and a good recipe for chocolate buttercream icing for her birthday cake.

I am going to make a real effort to get back into blogging. We'll see how it goes!

Falling For Fall

So far I am loving every day that has come along this month! Not sure why, exactly, because I have plenty to bitch about, but I am just icing everything over with the fact that it is Autumn, and it's all good.
I have spent the last few days scouring the internet for thrifty recipes, which in turn, has led me to several fantastic food blogs. I can spend hours scrolling through these delicious pages, daydreaming about whipping up the featured recipes in my kitchen. I have a habit of opening several at a time in different tabs, then taking my time and perusing them at my leisure. This brings me to a minor soapbox moment, and what is becoming a HUGE pet peeve for me... Music on blogs.
Here I am, in the relative silence of my home, sipping on a beverage and clicking on links, then suddenly, I am assaulted by a very sudden, and very loud, blast of music. I scramble to find the offending page so that I can silence the player there. Then, a bit shaken, return to my task.
Don't misunderstand me.... I love music. However, I don't necessarily love YOUR music. When I am trying to grasp a new cooking concept, I don't care to have country, Christian, oldies, etc blaring in my face.
After spending months being auditorily (I made that up) raped on Myspace, I finally figured out where to find the option to not let peoples' players begin automatically when I visit their pages. I have yet to figure out how to do that on regular webpages though, short of the mute button, which keeps me from hearing my iTunes when I choose to have it on! I can't win for losing here.
That's it in a nutshell... that is all that was on my mind. So I suppose I will continue with my blog skimming, and brace myself to once again be attacked by Mr. Dean Martin belting out "That's Amore!"

Blessings.

Ugh, I am so bad at this!

It is more than obvious that I cannot manage to update my blog regularly. Maybe I need to write a reminder on my hand in permanent ink! Ah well, anyway, let's see if I can at least get caught up.
The past few weeks brought with them back-to-back hurricane evacuations. The first one was a near miss for my neck of the woods, and the second one still has people around here reeling. Hurricane Ike effectively knocked the hell out of everyone from Galveston Island to the Texas-Louisiana border... the whole border. We traveled north to Longview, TX, to stay with in-laws, and Ike followed us right up there. The wind was strong enough to knock the power out up there, but we managed to dodge the tornadoes and flooding. We came home the day after Ike made landfall, to a landscape not unlike the one we found after Rita in 2005. We were very fortunate this time around, only losing a few shingles and our fence now leans north. We were without power for a week; during which, we had to throw out all of the groceries that were in the refrigerator and chest freezer.
Today was the first day of Autumn; aka Autumn Equinox or Mabon (in the northern hemisphere anyway). This is my favorite time of year. I was in a fantastic mood all day, despite having a horrid cold. I went ahead and got out the Halloween/Autumn decorations and began decorating the house. I have decided to start a few projects. I am hoping to begin a BOS that I will scrapbook, and I am working my way through a Goddess "doll" for my bed. It's on hold for a bit though, because I am going to bed soon. I suddenly got a horrid headache and very, VERY nauseated. :(
I will try my best to check back in tomorrow! (let's not hold our breath, huh?)
